There are very few job vacancies these days that can be covered by a single one-size-fits-all job cover letter. And one of the hardest is writing a Customer Service cover letter. Customer service in today’s market place is far more difficult than people may think. To this end, we must take extra care when addressing a vacancy that requires a customer service cover letter.
In the modern 2010s era, customer service cover letters are totally different than they used to be back in the late 1990s. These CS jobs entail far more skills and talents than they ever did before – some spanning a whole spectrum of duties – far more than they used to do.
For job cover letters of any type, you must stick to the requirements of the job in question. Look at the advertisement for the job and study it. Then look at it again. Look at the requirements for the job. And, if you feel you are competent enough to do them all, or have experience in doing them, write a customer service cover letter around those requirements. Emphasize the fact that you have had experience in all aspects of the requirements and feel you are well qualified to meet the employer’s needs.
Leave out all personal stuff. They are not interested in that. If they want to know, they’ll ask. Simply add a few sentences stating that you will be happy to share your knowledge and experience with fellow workers, and that you are very big on listening rather than talking. This is a biggie in CS skills. Do not veer off the subject, stick to the plan, and don’t get into telling them you can be an asset to their company. Why? Because how the heck do you know? They will decide that and tell you in due course.
